Unique Needlestick Injury Reimbursement Program

Estimates indicate that each year, one in ten healthcare workers is accidentally stuck by a contaminated sharp - mostly needlesticks*. Sharps injuries may result in life threatening HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C infections.

It's clear why accidental needlestick injuries should be a top health and safety concern for you and your employees. How a sharps injury claim is handled can make a big difference to the injured person and your practice.

The Hartford's Workers' Compensation policy covers payment for initial testing of your employee and, when the source patient agrees, reimburses for testing the source patient. Not all companies cover these costs.

Reimbursement for source patient testing saves your practice money, and gives your employee peace of mind, by determining more quickly if he or she was exposed to any blood-borne illnesses.

Importantly, if testing reveals the source patient has a blood-borne disease, The Hartford's Workers' Compensation program will work with your employee to obtain preventative treatment in accordance with Center of Disease Control guidelines.
